Helsinki Open Call 2023

The Helsinki Photo Festival is excited to announce its Open Call for submissions, inviting photographers and photographic artists worldwide to participate. The theme for the Open Call 2023 is "COURAGE."

In the midst of turbulent times marked by climate change, pandemics, war, and human rights violations, the call for courage becomes evident. Courage, defined in various forms such as the strength to face pain or grief and the bravery displayed by those who take risks, is at the heart of this year's theme. As Nelson Mandela articulated, true courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it.

Participants are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly and creatively. Each submission can include up to 20 works, accompanied by a written statement explaining how the project aligns with the theme. A distinguished jury of experts in photography and visual arts will review all submissions, with selected projects earning the opportunity to exhibit at the Helsinki Photo Festival 2023 and receive festival awards.

The festival aims to showcase the works of 50 artists through solo and group exhibitions, spanning the festival period from July 7 to October 1, 2023.
